Eastern Railway : Luggage Rules


Luggage means goods of a passenger either carried by him in his charge or entrusted to a railway administration for carriage . As such all the items except those items which are specially exempted for carriage as luggage can be accepted for holding as luggage .

Free allowance marginal allowance and the maximum permissible quantity of luggage for carriage in the compartment are given below :-

A.C. 1st Class
70 Kgs. 15 Kgs. 150 Kgs.

A.C. 2 Tier Sleeper and First Class
50 Kgs. 10 Kgs. 100 Kgs.

A.C. 3 Tier Sleeper and Chair Car
40 Kgs. 10 Kgs 40 Kgs.

Sleeper Class (M / Exp.)
40 Kgs. 10 Kgs. 80 Kgs.

Second Class (M / Exp.) and ordy
35 Kgs. 10 Kgs. 70 Kgs.

N.B.
# Children aged above 5 and below 12 yrs. travelling on half tickets are entitled to half of these weight free allowance on luggage .
# Luggage in excess of the free allowances indicated above should be booked at the luggage office .
# All articles taken into the carriage are carried at the entire risk of the owner .



PENALTY FOR UNBOOKED LUGGAGE / PARTIALLY BOOKED LUGGAGE



Passengers travelling with unbooked / Partially booked luggage in excess of the free allowance , the penalty would be as follows :-
Excess Carried Penalty

When luggage is found to be more than free allowance but within the marginal allowance
The weight exceeding free allowance shall be charged at normal luggage scale rate subject to a minimum of Rs. 30
Luggage exceeding free allowance plus marginal allowance The weight exceeding free allowance shall be charged at 6 (six) times the luggage scale rate subject to a minimum charge of Rs.50

Passenger detected holding more than one ticket to avoid of free allowance or to carry extra luggage will be allowed the free allowance and extra weight permissible only a one ticket
Other ticket will be cancelld and the extra weight will be charged at 6 (six) times the luggage scale rate subject to minimum of Rs. 50
